Effect of boronizing process of AISI 321 stainless steel surface on its corrosion resistance in acid environment (pH = 1)

The paper presents results of research under the effect surface thermo-chemical treatment on cor-rosion resistance X6CrNiTi18-10 steel. corrosion layers stainless steel obtained as a result (boronizing process) was assessed using method progressive thinning, which consists in performing tests deeper and areas layer. This allowed for determination changes individual characteristic corro-sion parameters read from potentiokinetic polarization curves depth profiles these parameters. In paper, to general corrosion, performed acidified sulphate solutions (pH = 1) have been presented. thickness layer basis structural microhardness cross-section material. It has found that extremely high hardness boron accompanied by deterioration resistance. rate is 3-4 times higher than material core (substrate). characteristics pas-sive state are particularly worsened, manifested an increase value critical passivation current, minimum current passive range limiting tendency secondary passivation.
